Next Wednesday, February 17th, Alliance will be hosting its annual Awareness Day for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities at the State Capitol. Alliance represents 15 Community Centered Boards (CCBs) and 18 Service Provider Organizations (SPOs) in Colorado, organizations that all together serve more than 13,000 people in nearly every county in the state. Alliance works tirelessly to ensure that our State government representatives are aware of the powerful and positive contributions local citizens with developmental and intellectual disabilities bring to our communities, and Awareness Day is their marquee event.
The event will begin with two individuals with developmental disabilities leading the Pledge of Allegiance in House and Senate Chambers at the Capitol. Following the morning legislative sessions, there will be a lunch featuring a keynote address tracing the rich history of the community system of providing services in Colorado and its impact on individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The presentation will be made by Ron Marquez, Community Relations Director, Developmental Disabilities Resource Center.
Even more exciting, Alliance will announce its 2010 Direct Support Employee of the Year during the lunch. Two Imagine! employees, Pramila Adhikari and Brian Shaw, are finalists for this prestigious honor.
Good luck to Pramilla and Brian, and thanks to Alliance for their efforts in organizing this important and meaningful event.
Thank You Thursday
